Long Live the Chori Burger!

Street food is a staple in the Philippines. Grilled Chori Burger and Longga Burgers are best sellers in Boracay island. It is very cheap, tasty in every bite and belly filling as well. You wont miss these food stands in the island because they are sold everywhere in the long stretch of the White Beach and are available until wee hours in the morning. Its great to have as afternoon merienda watching the sunset or after bar hopping.

Not bad for Php20 =) How far can your Php20 go in Manila?

Hi! I'm traveling solo to celebrate my 30th birthday in Boracay from September 1st to 3rd, 2010. Do you have recommendations as to where I could stay? A 3days-2nights beachfront fan room accommodation will do. Food and activities to try? I'm going by myself and will go on a VERY LIMITED budget.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ranier,

I'm glad that you are interested in going on an island adventure for your 30th Birthday. It's going to be a wonderful experience, I'm pretty sure about that.

Since budget is your main concern, I suggest that you go on backpacking style, Try to get reservations from D'Mario Boracay. This is located in Angol Point, Southern end of White Beach. They do have cheap fan rooms and dorm style rooms. D'Mario also has a beach front al fresco Italian restaurant. It is one of the oldest restaurant on the island, serves authentic Italian dishes owned and managed by Italian local, Mario Sezian. Dishes would range from P100-P300 (Pizza, Pasta, Full Platter)

My favorite food stops would be Lemon Cafe's Seared Tuna, Ariel's House Lemon Chicken, Smoke Resto's Bulalo, Salpicao, Chicken Curry, Kaopad and so on (budget), Chopsticks, Mang Inasal (budget), Jaspers (budget).

For activities, I suggest you rent a mountain bike, go biking to Mt. Luho Peak, early morning run at the Bulabog Beach (to see the sunrise), sunset run on White Beach, Paraw sailing too. Catch locals play beach football and gain new friends.

Hope to hear from you soon.

The Missinng Blessed Mary's Grotto Boracay

Willy’s Rock Boracay will never be the same without the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Grotto on it. The well loved, most photographed tourist spot in Boracay was recently demolished. Island locals and visitors were shocked to wake up one morning to learn about this horrifying incident.

Rumor has it that the deed was done overnight and without witnesses. It’s very hard to believe that no one has witnessed it because tourists often pass by that area in between bar hopping or late night strolling and police patrollers are doing their routine rounds 24/7. If there were any witnesses, I hope that they do coordinate with the authorities and shed light to this incident that has angered many locals.

As reported in national TV, Umagang Kay Ganda program, it was the Willy’s Resort owner, himself, who ordered the demolition of The Grotto. His intention was to prove his faith and his devotion to his new found religion.

While everyone should respect each other’s faith, taking away of something so meaningful to most people-such as The Grotto in Boracay- is very upsetting especially Catholics who visit the Island.

Fr. Placer Magloire, Boracay Island Parish Priest was heard saying in his homily, "...they may win in this battle, but they can not win the war! They declare war but we wage peace. They wage insult and hatred but we declare love and respect. They destroyed the image of the Blessed Mary in no time but The Grotto will soon rise with all It's Glory..."

Here are few photos on the web, in memory of The Grotto, which we will never see again but we hope to be rebuilt.
